Local NAACP raising funds for scholarships, creating community souvenir book

The local branch of the NAACP is looking to raise funds to support their scholarship program, and they’re putting together a community souvenir book to help reach that goal.

Speaking with WHOP Friday morning, Book Team Chair Javanta Dawson says they’re crafting a full-color book where individuals can celebrate memorials, churches, organizations, youth accomplishments and more.

She says full pages are $100, half pages are $75 and quarter pages are $50—and submissions can be made by contacting 804-536-2033 or via Facebook.

The book will be available for purchase by the community in April for $20.

The deadline to put in a submission is January 31. Money raised goes to benefit scholarships for local youth through the NAACP and is part of the Freedom Fund Scholarship Gala, which has the theme of “Bridging Our Community” in 2024.
