The Salvation of Army is officially closing their long-time thrift store Friday, while looking ahead to a future where they will still provide for those in need in the community.
Speaking with WHOP Thursday, Lt. Lindsey Galabeas says it’s a sad chapter in the Salvation Army’s story, but they’re intent to make the best of it—they’ll be opening a little early Friday and staying open until 4 p.m., where she hopes people will come make it a great last day while supporting their efforts locally.
She says they intend to opening a Clothing Closet that will be open once a week where those who are in need can go and find clothing and other items.
They are still accepting donations of items—mostly clothing and some furniture items—as Lt. Galabeas says they are committed to helping everyone who needs a little hand-up. Donations can be made at the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen, which is also now where their offices are located.
In April, the Salvation Army of Hopkinsville will be host to a variety show to help raised funds to send local youth toe summer camp, with more information to be released in the coming weeks.
Monetary donations can also be dropped off there, or if you’re interested in sponsoring a local youth for summer camp, you can contact the Salvation Army by calling 270-885-9633. To stay up-to-date on happenings at the local Salvation Army, follow them on Facebook.
