A woman has been charged with first-degree criminal abuse by the Hopkinsville Police Department.
According to the police report, officers responded to a medical facility on the Eagle Way Bypass on Friday just afternoon where two witnesses reported that they saw a child being abused. Investigation determined that 23-year-old Mara Cardwell of Hopkinsville had allegedly been seen striking a six-year-old child with “a closed fist and brute force”.
Cardwell denied punching the child, telling officers she pulled the child towards her and popped her on the rear-end.
Cardwell is charged with first-degree criminal abuse against a child under 12 years of age.
