The Christian County Local Planning Committee approved revisions to the draft district facilities plan for Christian County Public Schools at their Tuesday meeting.
The district facilities plan is an outline that spotlighting construction and renovation priorities in the school district for the next four years.
The revisions included item removals. Eric Rang from Hafer Architects shared that demolition of the old Christian County Middle School and the construction of the consolidated Christian County High School were removed from the plan since both projects are underway.
Resource rooms proposed for Christian County Middle School were removed, because of the school’s size the Kentucky Department of Education will not allow any additions.
A custodial receiving area a Pembroke Elementary School was also removed from the plan due to the school’s size.
Then concerning the order of priorities, renovations for Martin Luther King Jr. Early Learning Center was placed higher on the list. Assistant Superintendent Kevin Crider says there are two hallways of classrooms that could be used following renovations.
The board approved the revised plan which comes with a price tag of around $55 million. Afterward, Crider shared that the updated plan will be shared with KDE. The plan will be then be discussed and voted on by the Christian County School Board.
Before the board votes on the plan a public hearing will be hosted on May 15.
