Lyon County ends Lady Colonels’ softball season, program

The Christian County Lady Colonels’ proud softball program came to an end Monday afternoon with a 9-3 loss to host Lyon County in the Region 2 Softball Tournament at Lee S. Jones Park. 

The Lady Lyons scored six runs in the top of the fifth inning and blew open a close game as they outhit the Lady Colonels 13-4. 

Christian County took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Alyssa Petterson doubled to lead off. After a ground out, Alondra Rodriguez doubled to score Petterson. 

The lead didn’t last long as Lyon County tied the game 1-1 in the top of the second inning using three singles and a walk. 

The score remained 1-1 until the fifth as the Lady Lyons exploded for six runs using five straight hits, including a double by Jaylen Tackett. After a walk, Olivia Moore hit a three-run double for a 7-1 advantage. 

Lyon made it 8-1 in the top of the sixth inning as Tackett singled to bring in Audrey Akridge. 

The Lady Colonels cut the lead to 8-3 in the bottom of the sixth when Chloe Almy tripled and came home to score courtesy runner Madison Jones. Rodriguez grounded out and Almy scored on the play. 

Lyon County scored the final run in the top of the seventh inning when Moore singled. Courtesy runner Maddie Long advanced to third due to an error and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Emma Brasher. 

Jordan Turner suffered the pitching loss for the Lady Colonels, which saw their final season end at 19-13-2. 

Lyon County advances to play defending state champion Henderson County at 6 p.m. tonight in Eddyville. Henderson defeated Caldwell County 8-0. 

Crittenden County defeated Union County 7-3 and will play Madisonville at 8 p.m. today in the semifinals. The Lady Maroons blasted Fort Campbell 15-0 in three innings.
