The Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a Madisonville man at the Pilot Travel Center in Morton’s Gap Tuesday morning.
According to a news release, investigation determined that a semi-truck operated by 45-year-old Andy Mena of Illinois was parked in the lot around 4 a.m. when someone knocked on his door while he was sleeping inside. Mena says he was asked to move his truck forward so another driver could connect his trailer that was parked next to Mena.
Mena reportedly pulled forward for approximately 15 minutes before backing back into his former spot, telling officers he did not see anyone there.
Around 7 a.m., Mena pulled his truck forward to exit and enter the truck stop, and that’s when he noticed someone between the two trailers. The victim, and driver of the other semi-truck parked next to Mena, had been pinned between the trailers.
He was identified as 53-year-old Hershel Cobb of Madisonville, and pronounced deceased at the scene by the Hopkins County Coroner.
The Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Hopkins County Coroner, Medical Center Ambulance Service and Kentucky State Police.
