The City of Madisonville has been a hot-spot for economic development and tourism in recent years, and Mayor Kevin Cotton expressed his excitement for his community on WHOP Wednesday.
On the Early Bird Show, Mayor Cotton and Deputy City Administrator Brad Long talks all things Madisonville, from festivals to announcements to retail. Mayor Cotton says that Starbucks and Aspen Dental are up and running, and they’re expecting a $30 million retail development and other locations to start taking real shape soon.
The ribbon was just recently cut and the doors officially opened for the Kentucky Sports Factory, a sportsplex facility in Madisonville that Cotton says is home to numerous courts and a variety of sports—with people already taking full advantage of it.
He says things like the Kentucky Sports Factory wouldn’t have happened without a strong partnership between city and county government in Hopkins County.
Also in the works for Madisonville is a state law enforcement training facility, where law enforcement hopefuls could attend their mandatory 20 weeks of basic training with the Department of Criminal Justice, instead of having to travel to Richmond, Kentucky’s facility in eastern Kentucky.
Mayor Cotton says the facility will be a tremendous boon to local law enforcement, cutting down on academy wait times and department costs.
Tourism has also been big in Madisonville, with the Christmas in the Park event, hot-air balloon rides, the 2025 Praise in the Park and Fourth Fest already in the works—Long says Madisonville has a lot to offer, and you can find out all about it on madisonvilleliving.com.
