Man facing numerous charges following high-speed pursuit

A Hopkinsville man is facing numerous charges following a pursuit that began at North Drive and West Seventh Street Saturday afternoon.

According to the Hopkinsville police report, officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle that did not use a proper signal—that’s when the driver allegedly sped up in an attempt to evade police. The vehicle reached speeds of over 110 miles per hour, allegedly drove into oncoming traffic and passed vehicles at similar speeds.

The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Daequon Forte of Hopkinsville, reportedly fled the vehicle on foot into a field near Dawson Springs Road and Davenport Lane on the Eagle Way Bypass—the vehicle was left in drive, where it then rolled down the road before striking a guardrail and the front of a police cruiser.

During the foot pursuit, a K9 sustained a cut to his eye and the K9 officer had cuts to his fingers.

Forte was eventually taken into custody and charged with two counts of first-degree fleeing or evading police, first-degree wanton endangerment, reckless driving, first-degree criminal mischief and failure to or improper signal.
