The Madisonville Police Department arrested a man after he allegedly tried to drive through the Christmas parade route on Saturday.
According to the police report, a Madisonville police officer had his cruiser parked at the intersection of East Arch Street and North Main Street, to serve a block and stop for traffic during the Christmas parade Saturday afternoon. The cruiser reportedly had its blue lights activated during this time.
The officer watched a truck approach the cruiser and then go around it, continuing on towards a crowd of people. The officer was able to get the vehicle stopped and made contact with the driver, Douglas Blair, who allegedly smelled of alcohol. When told to put the vehicle in park, Blair allegedly hit the gas, moving forward towards the officer and a crowd of people, including children.
The officer was able to reach into the vehicle and put it in park, before pulling Blair out of it. Following several field sobriety tests, he was taken into custody.
He’s facing charges of DUI, two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment and disregarding traffic signals.
