Man rescued, flown to Vanderbilt for injuries

A man was discovered with severe injuries near the CSX railroad tracks near Metcalfe Lane Monday afternoon.

According to the Hopkinsville Fire Department, first responders went to a secluded area near the CSX railroad off of Metcalfe Lane, due to a caller reporting that an individual had fallen and was only a short distance from the tracks in a wooded area.

Crews conducted a rescue operation using a stokes basket to bring the male patient safely up the embankment, and were able to stabilize him. He was then transported to a waiting helicopter and from there, flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment of significant injures to his lower leg.

Officials believe the victim had been injured and unable to get out of the area for approximately 14 hours.
