After the annual Hoptown Half-Marathon and 5k had around 300 runners in October, Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation presented this year’s beneficiaries, Sanctuary, Inc. and the Christian County Rescue Team with $6,000 checks on Monday.
Each year funds, from the Hoptown Half-Marathon and 5k go toward organizations in the community and supporting their efforts.
Sanctuary, Inc. is a domestic violence and sexual assault victim advocacy nonprofit that operates in the Pennyrile region. The Christian County Rescue Team partially composed of volunteers is responsible for responding to accident scenes to assist victims and ensure their safety.
A check was presented to Christian County Rescue Team Chief, Randy Graham who says he is grateful that his organization was chosen as a beneficiary and that the funds will help them continue their service to citizens in the county.
Graham further specified that the funds will come in handy as the rescue team has plans to purchase new equipment.
Parks and Recreation Superintendent, Toby Hudson says he is happy that they are able to give back to the community and benefit the county as a whole.
Along with the two beneficiaries, smaller checks were given to the Hopkinsville Lions Club, Pennyroyal Center and the Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library who received the most votes for having the best water and cheering stations at the half-marathon and 5k.
