May is National Foster Care Month and the Pennyrile Foster and Adoptive Family Association is putting out the call for more foster parents, particularly in Christian County.
Speaking with WHOP Thursday morning, Leslie Vass with the association says they are sorely lacking in enough foster parents to cover the number of children in need, especially for those children over the age of 12 and older.
She says if anyone is interested in opening their hearts and homes to children who need help, they can reach out to the association on Facebook or by calling 270-881-7034, and they can help you get started with items and training.
Those interested can attend an informational meeting, and then they would move into pre-service courses to learn all you need to know.
This year’s theme for National Foster Care Month highlights the need to create a child welfare system that authentically engages and supports young people who are preparing to leave foster care.
