Murder suspect Anthony Moore was back in Christian Circuit Court Wednesday morning, after attempts at mediation appear to have failed.
Commonwealth’s Attorney Maureen Leamy appeared with Moore in front of Judge John Atkins, asking for clarity on the defense’s intent to pursue an insanity defense, if Moore was found to be competent to stand trial and no expert has been subpoenaed.
With Moore set to go to trail at the end of September, the clock is ticking to gather both information and expert witnesses. Moore’s defense attorney, Daniel Sherman, explained that his filing of a mental illness defense was broad, but he only intends to argue ‘extreme emotional disturbance’ in the events on that night in March of 2025.
Moore is charged with murder in the death of 31-year-old Cicara Chantel James at a location on Pembroke-Oak Grove Road.
Sherman did request that a final pre-trial hearing be set on a final hope that a resolution can be reached—if not, they’ll head to trial on September 28.
Judge Atkins set a pretrial hearing for September 9. The Christian County Sheriff’s Department reports Moore was sitting on the porch when they arrived and allegedly admitted to the fatal shooting.
He and James both reportedly lived in the home and had children together—those children were in the home when the incident occurred. He is also charged with first-degree wanton endangerment.
