After being chosen earlier this year to serve as the principal of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Early Learning Center, Leigh Ann Stewart announced her retirement.
According to a news release, Stewart’s education career has been spent entirely with the Christian County Public School System.
Stewart served as a teacher and curriculum specialist at Lacy and Belmont Elementary Schools, an assistant principal at Millbrooke and MLK Elementary Schools, a school improvement administrator at Freedom and MLK Elementary Schools as well as an administrator at Cumberland Hall.
In March, Stewart was selected to serve as the principal of the new early learning center. Assistant Superintendent Jessica Addison says Stewart was instrumental in the transition to the new building and establishing a positive and nurturing environment that supports students and staff.
As a result of Stewart’s retirement, Freedom Elementary School Assistant Principal Kim Lint has been selected to serve as the interim principal of the early learning center. Lint says she excited to join the staff and looks forward helping build bright futures for the community’s youngest learners.
Stewart’s retirement is effective on November 1 and the open position will be posted to the district website.
