While academic expansions and construction projects are underway at Murray State University, President Ron Patterson spotlighted how the developments will lead to more student opportunities at Monday’s Hopkinsville Mayor’s Town Hall.
Patterson is the university’s 15th president, and he began his four-year term in the summer of 2025. Before being selected for the position, Patterson served as the president of Chadron State College in Chadron, Nebraska.
The Murray State Regional Campus in Hopkinsville sits along Fort Campbell Boulevard, and Patterson says the institution’s enrollment is the highest it has been in the past three years. To provide additional support to students pursuing an education at the regional campus, Patterson announced the launch of the Hopkinsville Scholarship Fund, with a goal of raising at least $10,000.
Patterson says folks have started donating, but they are still approaching their goal. Those interested in donating can visit murraystate.edu/giving.
At the main campus, Patterson says Jackson Hall, the new College of Nursing and Health Sciences Building, is set to open in Fall 2026. The $45.5 million building was named in honor of Bob and Karen Jackson, the former president and first lady of Murray State.
The construction of the new building comes as the nursing program is outgrowing its current home, Mason Hall. Once the program moves to Jackson Hall, Patterson says Mason Hall will be renovated and will become the new home of the university’s dental hygiene and exercise science programs.
Progress continues toward establishing a Veterinary Medical Sciences Facility at the university’s West Farm. Patterson says they are hosting a groundbreaking ceremony for the $60 million facility on April 22. However, he says they are still waiting for a consultation visit from the American Veterinary Association to review the university’s plans for the facility.
Patterson says they plan on welcoming the first class to the facility in the fall of 2028. Along with the academic building projects, construction is underway on a Living and Learning Commons for students. The new residential building will have 250 beds and student amenities such as game rooms and study lounges.
