New inductees announced for Gallery of Great Black Kentuckians

The Kentucky Human Rights Commission was in town on Friday for its monthly meeting, during which new inductees into the Gallery of Great Black Kentuckians were spotlighted.

Commission Executive Director Cynthia Fox shared that the gallery was established in the 1970s because not enough Black history is being taught in Kentucky schools.

Fox says the late Ben Richman and Porter G. Peeples are set to be inducted into the gallery in December. Richman is the former president of the Louisville Urban League and Peeples is the current president of the Lexington-Fayette County Urban League.

The gallery is available at kchr.ky.gov. During their visit, the commission also hosted a Civil Rights Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Helen Danser of Berea, William Davis of Lexington, Amber Duke of Louisville, Virginia Moore of Williamsburg and Hopkinsville’s Louis McHenry were announced as the newest inductees to the Hall of Fame.
