Any hope of a white Christmas in western Kentucky is well and truly dashed, as temperatures look to stay well above normal, and rain chances stay in place throughout the week.
Forecaster Rachel Trevino with the National Weather Service in Paducah says temperatures will steadily rise throughout the week, before becoming downright warm on Thursday and Friday.
Those warm temperatures bring with them daily chances for rain, with the best chances for rainfall looking to be on Christmas Day itself, before picking back up just in time for the weekend. Trevino says some areas could get about two inches of a rainfall, which could cause some minor flooding issues in the usual low-lying areas.
The good news is, at this time, there’s no threat of severe weather in the forecast.
The rain could cause some travel problems for those traveling for the holidays, so make sure to use appropriate caution on wet roadways and give yourself plenty of time to reach your destination safely.
Then, looking towards next week, expect a sudden plunge in temperatures as arctic air rushes into the region—and a few folks might even see some snow flakes in the air.
Little to no accumulation is expected at this time. Stay tuned to the WHOP Family of Stations for any updates to the weather forecast.
