North Elm shooting suspect gains new attorney

Marshawn Taylor, the man accused in a shooting in Many of 2021 that happened on North Elm Street, has a new attorney.

In Christian Circuit Court Monday morning, public defender Eric Bearden entered in his appearance as Taylor’s new attorney and informed the court he needed more time to speak with his client, receive the evidence in the case and then go over it.

With the hope he will have everything he needs by that time, Circuit Judge Andrew Self set a pretrial conference for December 4, where they will possibly set a trial date.

Taylor is currently serving a sentence in a state facility on separate charges. Taylor allegedly shot 27-year-old Marka Smith of Owensboro in the wrist and hip while she was sitting in a vehicle in the 100 block of North Elm in May of 2021. He’s charged with assault in the first-degree, first-degree wanton endangerment and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
