Oak Grove Mayor Jackie Oliver has declared a state of emergency on Monday for the city following the weekend’s severe flooding.
Between Wednesday and Saturday, Christian County received an unprecedented amount of rainfall resulting in severe flood. In the declaration Oliver says the flooding has resulted in concerns for the safety and well-being of residents and the need for immediate emergency response.
Since Oak Grove does not have any shelters, Oliver encourages those displaced by flooding to get shelter assistance at St. John Methodist Church in Hopkinsville. Oliver says the Community Center does not have the necessary resources to operate as an emergency shelter.
Oliver reminds residents to remain safe and to contact local emergency services if needed. By declaring a state of emergency, Oak Grove could receive assistance from state and federal storm recovery agencies.
