The Oak Grove Tourism Commission is celebrating after it received a Silver Kaleidoscope Award for Best Children’s Event for last year’s Butterfly Festival.
The commission was presented with the award at last week’s Southeast Festivals and Events Association Conference. According to the commission, 187 applications were submitted by tourism agencies across the southeast region for award consideration.
Commission Executive Director Traci Cunningham says she is beyond proud of her team for their hard work and dedication to the Butterfly Festival, and winning the award was a reminder of why they continue to host the annual event. At the first Butterfly Festival in 2008, around 300 butterflies were released, and at last year’s festival, that amount grew to around 2,600 butterflies.
The Butterfly Festival will return to Oak Grove War Memorial Walking Trail Park in late summer. For the upcoming festival, the commission plans to release around 2,800 butterflies.
