One badly injured in KY 164 crash that knocked the power out hundreds Saturday

A man was badly injured in a single-vehicle crash on Newstead Road in Christian County Saturday afternoon, and it put the lights out for hundreds in the area.

According to the Christian County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to the intersection of KY 164 and We Like It Lane just before 5:45 p.m. for reports that a vehicle had struck an electric utility pole.  Upon arrival, deputies found the vehicle on its side after it had left the roadway and overturn, colliding with the utility pole and completely destroying it.

The driver, who was the sole occupant, was located laying on the ground outside of the vehicle with obvious wounds to his mouth, hip and arm. The victim, identified as 51-year-old Torell Boyd, was flown to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville for treatment.

The power was out for just under 700 individuals in the area for several hours as Pennyrile Electric worked to replace the demolish pole and power lines.

Preliminary investigation determined that Boyd’s vehicle went into the ditch, which is where it struck a concrete culvert and went airborne. Drugs or alcohol is listed as a possible factor in the crash.
