One hurt, one arrested in West Second Street shooting

A man was injured in a shooting on West Second Street Labor Day morning Monday.

The adult male victim sustained gun shot wounds to the arm and leg, according to Hopkinsville Fire and EMS Captain Payton Rogers, who says the victim was transported to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for treatment. He was in stable condition at that time, according to Rogers.

The shooting happened just before 9:30 a.m. near South Jessup, and Hopkinsville Pole report that the victim, Demetrees Bussell, was located was found inside of a residence on Jessup. Investigation determined that the suspect, identified as Keyivoran Pettigrew, had run into a residence on South Oneal Avenue, where he was located.

Investigation revealed that the two had been in a verbal altercation, which allegedly led to Pettigrew pulling a gun and firing on Bussell.

Pettigrew was taken into custody and charged with second-degree assault.
