One killed in on 68-80 collision in Logan County

A Russellville resident was killed in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 68-80 in Auburn in Logan County Wednesday afternoon. 

According to the Logan County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to the crash that occurred at the rail road crossing on 68-80 in Auburn for reports of a two-vehicle collision between a passenger car and a tractor-trailer.

Preliminary investigation determined that a westbound vehicle operated by 42-year-old Alexa Stearsman of Russellville collided with the back of a stopped tractor-trailer driven by 56-year-old Ihor Handzyuk of Philadelphia.

Handzyuk was stopped behind an uninvolved tanker hauling hazardous material that was required to stop at the railroad tracks.

Stearsman was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Logan County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Logan County EMS, Auburn Fire Department, the Logan County Coroner’s Office, the Logan County Emergency Communications Center, the Auburn Fire Department, Logan County Chaplain Services and the Logan County Emergency Communications Center.
