One killed, woman charged in vehicle vs. pedestrian in Pembroke

A man was killed and a woman has been arrested after she allegedly struck him with a vehicle in Pembroke early Friday morning.

According to the Christian County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to the Willows Apartment complex in Pembroke just after 2 a.m. for reports that a person had been struck by a vehicle and the suspected vehicle had left the scene.

Investigation determined the victim was 29-year-old Daquan Butler of Pembroke, who was taken to Jennie Stuart Medical Center, where he would succumb to his injuries and was declared deceased. Further investigation determined that the vehicle had been driven by 33-year-old Eiesha Whitlock of Hopkinsville. She allegedly engaged in wanton behavior, causing the collision that resulted in Butler’s death.

She was taken into custody a few hours after the incident—she reportedly told deputies she hit Butler with the car and realized he had become trapped underneath, before backing the vehicle up and hitting him again. That’s when she fled the scene, reportedly saying she was scared.

Whitlock is charged with second-degree manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident with failure to render air or assistance.
