Parks and Recreation prepares for spring, summer activities

As the weather warms up, Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation is preparing for the Nighttime WHOP’er of an Egg Hunt and other annual activities.

Parks and Recreation Superintendent Toby Hudson and Programs Coordinator Pam Rudd appeared on WHOP to share their plans for spring and summer.

Around 20,000 eggs are set to be scattered across Tie Breaker Park for the WHOP’er of an Egg Hunt on April 18. In addition to collecting candy, kiddos can win prizes, and one lucky hunter will receive $98.70.

People can pre-register at the Christian County Health Department, The Closet Marketplace Vendor Mall, The Little Things Boutique, Whites Auto Mall, Community Medical Clinic or Thomas Street Recreation Center. The hunt begins at 7:30 p.m. and registration will also be available at the park from 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. before the hunt.

The hunt will include areas for different age ranges and disabled children. Rudd says Parks and Recreation and WHOP have been partnering for nearly three decades to host the hunt and it grows every year.

Later in the season, Bluegrass Splash Aquatic Center opens on May 24. Then Summer Salute is set for September 12 and 13, and Hudson says they plan to announce the festival’s headlining music act in a couple of weeks.

The announcement will be made on Facebook at Hopkinsville Parks & Recreation.
