The Pembroke Volunteer Fire Department is celebrating after they were approved for two Assistance to Firefighters Grants.
According to the department, the first grant in the amount of $180,000 will allow for 18 new air packs and two new RIT packs, replacing the air packs they currently have that are about 17-years-old, and will ensure that each apparatus is fully operational with air packs for firefighters.
The second grant was in the amount of $318,000 and is for vehicle acquisition—it will pave the way for a new light rescue truck that will be equipped with a light tower and mobile cascade system. It will also allow for the capabilities for firefighters to fill SCBA breathing air bottles on scene of fires.
