Pennyrile Electric is hosting member appreciation events across its service region and on Wednesday, officials from the power provider were in Hopkinsville giving out light bulbs and ice cream.
Pennyrile Electric provides power to around 50,000 locations in Christian, Todd, Trigg, Logan, Caldwell, Muhlenberg, Lyon, Logan and Simpson Counties.
Alan Gates, the CEO of Pennyrile Electric, says their membership events give them a chance to connect with the communities they serve. Brent Gilkey, the vice president of Member Services and Communications says they connected with around 1,200 customers in Trigg County on Monday.
In 2025 so far, western Kentucky has been impacted by many severe weather events that have affected power reliability. Gates apologized for the inconvenience caused by weather-triggered power outages and thanked the staff who work to restore power during severe weather events. He also shared that they are always discussing ways to make their systems more weather-resilient.
Gates says they have a construction work plan, that spotlights ways improve and strengthen their systems. He says lightning and wind are the two largest threats to power outages and they invest in maintaining right of ways to ensure that power lines and power polls are not impacted by trees.
Then on June 24, Pennyrile Electric will host its annual meeting on Zoom. Gates says they have moved to hosting the meeting online to reach the customers that may live in the outskirts of their service region.
On Friday, Pennyrile Electric will be hosting a member appreciation event in Elkton at the Elkton-Todd County Park from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
