Senior citizens from across the nine counties of the Pennyrile region are competing in various sports for the annual Pennyrile Senior Games which kicked off on Monday.
The senior games have been a regional staple for 37 years. Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Program Coordinator, Pam Rudd says so far 201 competitors have registered and on Monday the games got underway with pickle ball, bowling and disk golf.
Rudd says Tuesday is the big day beginning with an opening ceremony and senior citizens will compete in a mile walk, croquet, cornhole, lawn bowling and ring toss. The games conclude on Wednesday with a dinner.
Rudd says is warms her heart to see the seniors have good time, socialize and enjoy some friendly competition.
Looking toward the future, Rudd says they may add new sports to the annual games, but want some feedback from their participants first.
The senior games opening ceremony kicks off at 8:15 a.m. on Tuesday at the Hopkinsville Sportsplex. Rudd invites that community to come and cheer on the competitors.
