The Pennyrile Walk to End Alzheimer’s is set to take over downtown Hopkinsville in fall, and to support the walk’s mission, Pennyroyal Hospice is hosting a box lunch fundraiser.
The Walk to End Alzheimer’s, scheduled for September 26, is an annual fundraiser for Alzheimer’s care and research. The fundraiser is also a chance for folks to learn more about the disease.
Alzheimer’s Disease is a form of dementia, which is an umbrella term used to describe diseases that result in cognitive disabilities such as memory loss and struggles with daily tasks. The dementia rate in Christian County is higher than the state average where around 12.5% of those over the age of 65 have some type of dementia.
Cindy Hancock, with with Pennyroyal Hospice, says the lunches are prepared by Four Seasons Catering and cost $12 each. The deadline for orders is Thursday and folks can choose between a steak wrap, chick wrap, club sandwich or a grilled chicken salad. Lunches also come with a dessert and water.
Hancock says the pursuit for a cure has always been a personal cause, but now she is caring her mother who has dementia. She says the funds raised by the box lunch fundraiser will go to the National Alzheimer’s Association, then those funds will be distributed to back to state associations for cure research and other resources.
Folks can call 270-348-6744 to order a lunch. Lunches will be available for pick up at the Pennyroyal Hospice at 220 Burley Avenue between 11:15 a.m. and noon on June 5.
