Pioneers, Inc. upheld a decades long tradition Thursday morning, handing out free Thanksgiving meals to anyone who wanted or needed one.
People were able to drive up and grab a plate for themselves or to take to a loved one—Pioneer Arnold Lynch says this community service endeavor began in 1984 and they’ve been providing free meals to those in need ever since.
He says the Pioneers is one of the longest-running African American service organizations in the state, and they’re focused on better the community in numerous ways, from individual projects to providing scholarships.
Lynch says it’s a tremendous effort from the Pioneers to get this yearly event accomplished, but its one they do with a spirit of giving.
Meals were handed out of from 10 a.m. until noon at the Pioneers Complex on North Main Street, where participants got a full plate of those Thanksgiving favorites.
