Police arrest Hopkinsville man following domestic violence report

Officers from the Hopkinsville Police Department responded to a report of domestic violence and child abuse that resulted in the arrest of Joshua Yates of Hopkinsville on Sunday.

According to a call received by the Christian County Emergency Communications Center a victim had locked themselves in the bathroom with their children after Yates reportedly pushed them against a wall and threatened to kill them.

Police responded to the residence at Summerset Place and knocked on the door repeatedly until Yates answered and allowed officers to enter the residence. Yates told officers that an argument ensued between him and the victim that turned physical.

Yates said that victim grabbed his arm and he reacted by placing his hands around their throat and pushing them into the wall while they were holding a baby. Red marks were reportedly found on the victim’s neck that matched Yates’ story.

Yates was charged with first-degree strangulation, first-degree criminal abuse of a child under the age of 12 and fourth-degree assault domestic violence.
