While escorting Santa Claus around town on Sunday, a Hopkinsville Police cruiser reportedly got into two-vehicle accident that resulted in possible injuries.
The wreck occurred on West 7th Street while Richard McAskill of Hopkinsville, who was operating the police cruiser, was attempting to catch up to the fire truck that Santa was riding in. McAskill was traveling east on West 7th Street and reportedly activated his emergency lights and drove into the opposite lane to pass other cars.
As he was passing traffic, a vehicle operated by Michael Keller of Princeton was also traveling east and turned left to go into the Dodge’s Store parking lot. However, as Keller was passing the opposite lane, his vehicle was hit by the police cruiser. Both vehicles came to a stop in a ditch in front the Dodge’s Store.
McAskill was transported to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for possible injuries and Keller and his passenger were treated by EMS at the scene.
