Representative Walker Thomas has been appointed to serve on the Council of State Governments South Human Services and Public Safety Committee.
The CSG South’s Human Services and Public Safety Committee is about addressing challenges that states face in the areas of human services and corrections, as well as policies and programs that address them. Some of the topics that the committee discusses includes health issues including the national opioid crisis, organ donations, long-term care, aging inmate populations, female offenders, and mental health parity in prisons.
The committee is made up for 15 member states in the south, and its goal is to connect and inform state governments on putting the best solutions into effect.
Representative Thomas currently serves as the Chair of the Budget Review Subcommittee on Personnel, Public Retirement, and Finance, and as a member of the Agriculture, Appropriations and Revenue and Veterans, Military Affairs, and Public Protection committees.
Representative Thomas says, “I’m honored and grateful to be appointed to the Council of State Governments’ Human Services and Public Safety Committee. I’m excited to work alongside our colleagues from across the region to develop policies and share ideas that will positively impact our communities not only here in the Commonwealth, but all across the southern region of our country.”
