A resolution is possible in the assault case against Jeffrey Proffitt, the man charged with shooting a woman on Petsch Lane in June.
Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Mark Gilbert requested more time to discuss resolving the case in Christian Circuit Court Wednesday morning, saying he thinks they are close to an agreement.
A pretrial hearing was set for January 31.
Proffitt is charged with first-degree assault, two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon after he allegedly shot a female victim in the leg at a residence on Petsch Lane in June.
The victim had to be flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment.
Investigation determined that the victim and Proffitt had been in an argument when he allegedly retrieved a handgun and brandished it during the argument—the gun went off, striking the victim.
