The Rotary Club of Hopkinsville is full-steam ahead was we heads towards the third night of the 75th WHOP Rotary Radio Auction—and they’ve already topped the $200,000 mark.
Even with an impressive $208,065.62 raised over two nights, that does trail a little behind last year’s pace, with 103 items sold during the auction for $14,645, $6,315.47 from the Diner and Sweet Shop, and then $56,680.90 raised by the Hour and Goat Clubs.
There’s still plenty of time to support the cause however, as the Rotary Auction resumes tonight starting at 6 p.m. at the War Memorial Building in Hopkinsville. The diner will be open for both lunch and dinner and Rotarian Austin Calvert put out the call to action, urging the community to help support their Rotary Scholars Program.
A recipient of the Rotary Scholarship himself, Calvert says the program allows a student to attend two-years at Hopkinsville Community College tuition free, which only sets them and this community up for future success.
Auction Chair Landan Stallons says Tuesday was a big night for education, as they awarded two more community grants. One went to the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School Interact Club as a match for their Divine Drops Water Project in Nigeria. The other grant went to Freedom Elementary School for their Reading Project, which is an initiative designed to build literacy skills and instill a love of reading.
In a huge announcement, Rotary welcomed Planters Bank as a Rotary Impact Business Partner, and they pledged $100,000 over the next five years to establish the Planters Bank Scholarship, supporting students who are majoring in Business. Stallons says it will also give students the chance to intern with Planters Bank to learn more about that industry.
The live auction gets back underway at 6 p.m. tonight, but don’t forget about the online auction happening over on Bolinger Real Estate’s website—those items will remain up for grabs until Saturday night, so make sure you had over there to check out what they’ve got.
You can listen to the fun on WHOP at 98.7 Lite FM or watch it on the Hopkinsville Rotary Club’s YouTube page, Spectrum Channel 376—or go watch in person.
