The Salvation Army of Hopkinsville is remaining on ‘White Flag’ status, as temperatures remain well below freezing with dangerous wind chills.
White Flag status means that the Salvation Army continues to operate emergency sheltering, warming services, and meal support beyond normal operations. And in addition to those services, the Salvation Army has been delivering food to shut-in seniors and families enrolled in supportive housing programs, ensuring that individuals who are homebound or unable to travel safely continue to receive meals during this weather emergency.
These continued operations does mean they are in need of donations and volunteers. Volunteers are needed to help relieve staff and current volunteers who have been working non-stop for days.
As for donations, items such as bottled water, non-perishable food items, coffee, hot chocolate and disposable cups, blankets, hats, gloves and warm socks are all needed, and they’ll also accept monetary donations.
Donations and volunteer inquiries may be directed to The Salvation Army of Hopkinsville by calling 270-885-9633.
