With parts of western Kentucky, including Hopkinsville, currently under a heat advisory, the Hopkinsville Salvation Army has opened a cooling station and has extended the hours of its emergency shelter.
The cooling station is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Friday at the nonprofit’s Life Navigation Hub and the emergency shelter is currently open 24 hours a day through Friday. Both the cooling station and the emergency shelter are located at 313 East 7th Street.
With the extreme heat, Salvation Army Lieutenant David Donegan says it is crucial that they provide a safe and cool environment for those in need and that their doors are open to anyone seeking relief from the heat.
Donegan also shared that the community can support their efforts by donating to the nonprofit as their daily expenses have increased as a result of the extended hours.
