Sheriff talks new K9s, reminds of new roadway UTV inspections

The Christian County Sheriff’s Department has two new eager deputies on the force—K9’s Luka and Soren, who have already hit the ground running, noses down and tails up.

Christian County Sheriff Tyler DeArmond appeared on the WHOP Early Bird Show recently, where he spoke about their new recruits, saying these two K9 units coming to the department was made possible thanks to funds allocated by the courts and by fundraising efforts with the Christian County Judge-Executive’s Office.

He says that office is actually starting up fundraising efforts again for the department, but now you could order hoodies with the Jaws-and-Paws: Enforcing the Laws branding on them and support the cause. You can take part by calling the Judge-Executive’s Office at (270) 887-4100.

Sheriff DeArmond says they’ll soon be entering tax collection season, and the Sheriff’s Department building on West Seventh Street is ready to accommodate the citizens. There are two drive up window lanes there, with one for taxes and the other for vehicle inspections. He says don’t forget that if you’re wanting to operate a UTV or other special vehicle on the roadways, you’ll need to have the inspected just like you would a standard vehicle.

Sheriff DeArmond says the school year has gotten off to strong start—though they did have a few speeders during the first couple of weeks and a couple of traffic hiccups that have since smoothed out.

The sheriff’s department is also reminding folks to drive safe and sober this Labor Day Weekend, and that includes on the water if you plan to be on the lake.
