Single-vehicle wreck results in DUI arrest

Hopkinsville Police responded to a single-vehicle wreck on South Virginia Street that resulted in the driver, 40-year-old Leslie Felts Hyams of Hopkinsville being arrested for driving under the influence on Wednesday.

According to a report from police, Felts Hyams was traveling northbound on South Virigina Street when she drove off of the roadway and into a ditch and stuck the curb of a side street. When officers made contact with her, she was reportedly be held up by a friend, was unsteady on her feet and was slurring her words.

Then a search of her car revealed a case of Twisted Teas in the backseat. Felts Hyams allegedly told officer she was diabetic, but when EMS arrived, she denied being diabetic. However, she did tell officers she took Trazodone to reportedly help her sober up before she drove home.

Felts Hyams was transported to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for a possible medical episode. After she was medically cleared, she was transported to the Christian County Jail.

Felts Hyams was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, failure to maintain insurance and having no registration plates.
