Solid Waste Manager explains new policy change

Hopkinsville Solid Waste Enterprise recently announced new trash collection policies, and General Manager Bryan Silver appeared on WHOP along with City Public Information Officer Amanda Brunt to explain the changes.

Starting Monday, all residential garbage will need to be placed in the curbside trash container in order to be collected. Bagged garbage or boxes outside of the container will not be collected.

Each week, a garbage truck collects the trash from the bins and a knuckle boom truck collects larger items such as furniture. If bagged trash is left outside of the garbage bin, Silver and Brunt says its costs the city extra money to collect and dispose it.

By updating the trash collection policy, the pair hope to lower operating costs which will allow them to keep their service rates the same.

Households who require an additional trash container can purchase one for $25 by calling 270-887-6245. However, Silver says he does not believe the average family will need to purchase an extra container and may just need to do a better job of breaking down their garbage.

Bulk items and yard material will still be collected as normal.
