Sports broadcasters, photographer publish book spotlighting the final season of CCHS, HHS football

As the football traditions at Hopkinsville and Christian County High Schools come to an end, their legacies remain and have been highlighted in the commemorative photo book, “Under the Same Lights.”

The book is authored by WHOP Sports Director Joe Wilson and General Manager Jeff Sisk, and the photos were taken by former Kentucky New Era Chief Photographer Danny Vowell.

Together, the trio highlighted the history of both football programs, their rivalry, and how their final seasons unfolded. Little factoids are also sprinkled throughout the book, underscoring historical milestones for both teams.

Vowell has spent many years on the sidelines covering local sports and says he wanted to work on a project spotlighting both football teams’ last season ahead of the opening of the consolidated Christian County High School in August.

Wilson says the book will be special for those who have played football for either school, been on the cheer teams or have been a part of the bands.

Vowell says it was an amazing journey crafting the book, and the process brought him back to those Friday nights when he was covering games while working at the Kentucky New Era.

Wilson says he has always taken great pride in reporting local sports and is proud to see the schools’ final football seasons documented in a physical book.
