Although wintry weather and icy temperatures have put kids out of school for the last week in Christian County, officials are looking forward to warmer weather and a renewed focus on education.
Speaking with WHOP Monday, Superintendent Chris Bentzel says they were lucky to avoid any busted pipes at school facilities during the extreme cold snap, and they’re fully expecting to have kids back in school on Tuesday.
He says they’ll have a renewed focus on sticking to their strategic plan, and thanks to the help of a grant from the Prichard Committee, they’ll have a director dedicated to just that.
Nichole Poindexter will serve as the Full-Service Community Schools Director and Bentzel says they were one of only 20 districts in the state that received that grant, so they intend to make good use of it.
The grant is designed to champion community-led educational solutions tailored specifically for Kentucky students and their families. When implemented effectively, the community schools’ model has been proven to boost student outcomes, increase college enrollments, and contribute to the overall well-being of students, especially in high-poverty schools.
