Superintendent talks testing data, teacher pay

The county will soon get a glimpse of what the assessment data for students in the Christian County Public System looks like, and the superintendent is hopeful they’ll see some funding for teacher pay.

Each year, the school system receives testing data back from the state to determine where students, and the district as whole, stand when compared to themselves and other districts in the state. Superintendent Chris Bentzel says they’ll release the numbers next week and they’ll use that data to adjust where they need to for student learning.

He says the accountability system has changed this year.

After that, he says they’ll focus attention on advocating in Frankfort for higher pay raises across the board for certified and classified staff, but especially for teachers—he says they’ve heard encouraging things so far from the legislature.

The superintendent also wished good luck to all the competitive events happening this weekend, including both Hopkinsville and Christian County High Schools heading to state semi-finals on Saturday. They won’t be the only local bands there, as they’ll be joined by both the Todd County and Trigg County marching bands.
