The 400-Mile Yard Sale takes over Christian County

Yard sales have sprouted up across Christian County and other communities along U.S. Highway 68 for the annual 400-Mile Yard Sale.

The yard sale kicked off on Thursday and continues through Sunday, and its route stretches from McCracken County in the west to Mason County in the northern part of the state.

Here, close to home, the Christian County Regional Animal Shelter is hosting its annual Dog Days of Summer Event, where folks can browse multiple yard sale booths and food and beverage vendors, and those searching for a pet can enjoy discounted adoption fees. Alyssa Moore from the shelter says the adoption fees for all animals are $50 plus tax, and they are also raising funds for their Get ‘Em Done Program.

The program helps get shelter animals spayed and neutered to avoid accidental litters. The shelter is also hosting two gift basket raffles to support the program. Moore says the raffle was created to honor Vickie Shelton, who passed away in March and worked at the shelter for 14 years.

The Dog Days of Summer continues on Saturday and concludes at 4 p.m.

Not too far away from the shelter, multiple yard sales are set up at 561 McLean Avenue. Tiffany Mumford is one of those vendors, selling a wide variety of items, including clothes, shoes, dishware, glassware and much more.

Mumford says the items she is selling are things that she no longer needs, and encourages folks to come out and shop because there are good deals on old and new items.

The location along McLean Avenue will have yard sale vendors through Sunday.

Then, in downtown Hopkinsville, Grace Episcopal Church is hosting a yard sale indoors to help shoppers beat the heat. The yard sale includes a lot of learning items and toys for young children and classroom furniture. Joyce Cornett from the church says the yard sale comes following the closure of the church’s preschool and kindergarten.

Cornett says it’s sad that their school program closed, but she enjoys seeing community members make use of the items.

The church’s yard sale concludes on Saturday at 5 p.m. To find more yard sales in the area, visit 400mile.com.
