The TVA sees record high demand in extreme cold

The Tennessee Valley Authority did in fact have a record-breaking peak for energy Wednesday morning, with the frigid temperatures putting pressure on the system and citizens alike.

Thankfully, it seems systems performed well overnight and this morning with the TVA, with no major issues at energy facilities. Spokesperson Adam May says at around 8 a.m. they saw a preliminary all-time record peak of approximately 34,500 megawatts, and he says they’re grateful to everyone who is doing their part to help.

The last TVA all time record was in August of 2007 at 33,482 megawatts. May says it seems the upgrades that were made during the summer to protect against extreme temperatures are paying off.

The TVA is expecting more high demand with bitter cold heading into the weekend.
