Todd County Emergency Management has announced a plan to form a local disaster assistance organization to be called Todd County Local Emergency Assistance and Disaster Services, or LEADS.
According to a news release from Todd County Emergency Management Director Daniel Smith, this comes as a result of recent severe weather that have occurred both locally and across the state, leading to county leaders feeling there is a need for better coordination of efforts to help those who are impacted.
Some of the goals of LEADS would include creating the ability to collect, coordinate and distribute both monetary and in-kind assistance to victims on a local level, establishing a process for notifying and coordinating local individuals and groups who want to provide hands on assistance, providing training as well as financial assistance to support the efforts of local individuals and groups who provide assistance to victims and establish a Long Term Recovery Plan.
What comes next is a kick-off and organizational meeting that is expected to happen in late February. It will be open to all interested individuals and organizations.
