It’s the return of the Trail of Tears Pow Wow in Hopkinsville this weekend, and the community invited to attend and learn all they can about Native American history and heritage.
It will take place September 7 and 8 at the Trail of Tears Heritage Park on East Ninth Street, and people will be able to enjoy food, stories, merchandise, dancing and more starting at 10 a.m. each day. Kristina Scott acts as historian and story-teller for the commemorative park and says while the main event kicks off Saturday, they’ll have events for local students throughout the week leading up to the Pow Wow.
She says in all these years, admission to the Pow Wow has remained the same, and that remains true this year—it’s $10 for adults, $5 for kids between the ages of seven and 12 and children six-years-old and younger get in free.
There will be two grand entries into the dance competitions on Saturday and one on Sunday.
Attendees will be able to enjoy music, storytelling, raffles, face-painting and other children’s activities and plenty of food and merchandise vendors, selling hand-crafted items.
All money raised during the event that is a celebration of the Native American people and their history both nationally and locally will benefit the Trail of Tears Commemorative Park and Heritage Center.
