Working toward ensuring reliable energy through the winter, regional energy provider, the Tennessee Valley Authority announced the addition of three new natural gas units set to withstand extreme temperatures at the Drakesboro Paradise Combined Cycle Plant.
In a news release, the energy provider shares that three new state-of-the-art natural gas energy production units are online with the ability to add 750 megawatts of power to TVA’s generation grid which can power around 440,000 homes.
Paradise Plant Manager Jim Phelps, says the units are a great addition to the plant and expects the units to be very reliable as they are able to start quickly and be remotely controlled.
Pennyrile Electric Keys Account Manager, Michael Oglesby says he is happy with the TVA’s economic development and expansion that is set strengthen energy reliability through harsh weather. The TVA provides energy to Pennyrile Electric a regional electricity provider.
In the news release, TVA General Manager of Major Projects, Jamie Cook says the new units are a part of the TVA’s plan to add more than 3,800 megawatts of energy generation to the grid by 2028.
While working to remain reliable and respond to energy demands, TVA President Jeff Lyash says the new natural energy units are important steps the TVA is making toward a carbon neutral future.
