TVA awards STEM grants, including to schools in Christian and Todd counties

The Tennessee Valley Authority and the Bicentennial Volunteers Inc. have announced the recipients of the STEM Grants, including some locally.

According to news release, the TVA is awarding $1.5 million in grant funding to 342 schools across their service region, which includes five states, to help educators develop science, technology, engineering and math education projects. Locally, Heritage Christian Academy, Sinking Fork Elementary School, Todd County Middle School, Todd County Central High School and South Todd Elementary School were awarded grants.

Those grants could reach up to $5,000—Todd County Middle School will use there $5,000 to implement a 3D printing project to enhance STEM learning. The program will develop problem-solving and creativity and provide hands-on technical experience.

The grant process was a competitive one, and preference was given to grant applications that explored TVA’s primary areas of focus such as environment, energy, economic development, and community problem-solving. Any school that receives their power from a local power company served by TVA was eligible to apply.
