With yesterday being National STEM Day, regional power provider, the Tennessee Valley Authority announced on Tuesday that they are partnering with the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation to establish 27 STEM centers across seven states in their service region with one set for Cadiz.
In a TVA news release, they share that these Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Centers will provide hands on learning opportunities for students in the region. All 27 STEM Centers are set to open by the end of 2023 and will provide students with tools such as snap circuits, bee-bots and ozobots.
In order to bring this plan to life the TVA has made a $1.1 million partnership with the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation which is in honor of the American baseball player of the same name and focuses on youth development.
On Wednesday the TVA and the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation hosted a ribbon cutting for the newly established STEM Center at the Tupelo City-Haven Boys & Girls Club in North Mississippi.
Foundation Co-Founder, Cal Ripken Jr. says he is proud of the work they were able to do alongside TVA to continue their mission of supporting today’s youth.
Along with Ripken, TVA Executive Vice President, Jeanette Mills says partnerships play a large role in their work and they are proud that they are able to have an impact on those in their service region.
Three STEM Centers will be established in Kentucky in Franklin, Hickman and Cadiz. The STEM Center in Cadiz will be located at local youth organization Genesis Express.
